A Little About Miss Appel...
My name is Melissa Appel and I am a born and raised Iowa girl. I graduated from Iowa City West.
2001 and went on to get a Floriculture Degree in 2003. Now I work as a Executive Administrative Assistant while attending college full time for Architectural Design.
I bought my first motorcycle in 2003 and joined NESBA (the North Eastern Sportbike Association) in 2004. NESBA changed my life quite literally. It made me a consistent rider, and blessed me with many supportive friends. Most recently it has lead me to competitive Road Racing.
I won my first race(s) in 2008 while participating in the Championship Cup Series Race of Champions at Road America, Wisconsin. Later that year I went on to achieve a couple more podium finishes at Heartland Park Topeka, Kansas.
I knew they were only amateur races, but also realized that I didn't know of any other women that had done the same before. It was motivational and helped me determine that now was the time to take it to the next level.
Now I physically train year long to ready my body for the demands of the sport. I continuously campaign for sponsors to help cushion the costs. In short, I'm fiercely competitive in and prepared to give road racing my all!
I hope that with some cunning planning and studious work, I will be able to become one of the few women who can call themselves an AMA Professional Factory Racer.
Please join me in this journey to make one girl's dream of becoming a Road Racing role model come true!
